MIND SPACE
MUSIC LAB
It's not just a recording studio,
It’s an experience.
One-on-one music making experiences for all ages (truly) in drumming, music production, the songwriting process, designing sound, future DJing. With creative technology everywhere that can actually be played from day one. whatever makes you most excited about playing and making music is what we focus on at the Mind Space Music Lab.
COME MAKE SOMETHING

This is your time, you lead the experience.

Lessons start with the student, not a curriculum. The student has a real say in what we do, how we do it, and when we change direction. Some days that means learning a groove or a song. Some days it means building a beat, writing, improvising, or following an idea somewhere unexpected.
I believe students learn best when they have real ownership of their musical lives. My role is to understand what engages each student and help them develop the technique, musicianship, and confidence to go further with it.
Lessons are collaborative: we work toward expressive playing, creative independence, and the ability to make thoughtful musical choices. The goal is for each student to become more capable of hearing, creating, and expressing music in a way that is genuinely their own.

DRUMMING
Start learning to play music you care about. We work on time, feel, coordination, listening, and technique in the context of actually playing.

MUSIC PRODUCTION
Learn Ableton or Logic by making music: build beats, arrange ideas, shape sounds, record, edit, and develop your own way of working.

SONGWRITING
Bring a melody, lyric, chord, beat, half-finished idea, or nothing at all. We listen for what interests you and build from there.

CREATIVE TECH
Play iPads, controllers, samplers, gesture tools, and other instruments as ways into musical thinking.
Made by the students in collaboration.
A selection of music created by my students. Songs, beats, experiments, and finished pieces that began with their own ideas. The goal isn’t to make everyone sound the same, but to help each student find a way of making a world of music that is uniquely theirs by working together with Michael.
ABOUT MICHAEL

I teach the way I perform music:
listen, build,
improvise and
collaborate.
Michael Feld is a drummer, music producer, theatre director, sound designer, and teaching artist. He earned his BA from Sarah Lawrence College, went to graduate school for education at NYU, and studied electronic music production at Dubspot. His work has included national touring, recording and composition, immersive theatre, live performance, and years of teaching students of all ages throughout metro Detroit. He brings that whole range of experience to Mind Space.
His teaching starts with a simple question: What would you like to learn? A session might begin with a song, a drum part, a beat, a melody, an iPad app, a synthesizer, or an idea that does not quite exist yet. From there, students learn technique, musical language, production, and technology by using them to make something they care about.
Pure Physicality is Michael’s performance and recording project, electronic music built from live drumming, gesture, sampling, and improvisation.
